You are not being wrong or unreasonable. Your neighbors are being incredibly inconsiderate to have noisy windchimes. Do you think it might be against the homeowner's association rules? It's worth checking into.

The first thing would be to politely ask them to take them down. If they don't, get the help of your neighbors and home owners association. If that doesn't work, you could take them to small claims court.

An easy thing to do, if you haven't mentioned your annoyance to anyone yet, would be to go into their yard and take the windchimes. There's a chance they won't replace them. If they do replace them, you would need to wait awhile before complaining, or else they would probably suspect you. Taking their windchimes is of course against the law, so you would need to be very careful and get rid of the evidence.

You could also experiment with earplugs. There are many different kinds and brands. You might find some that are comfortable and work well for you.

Some people find wind chimes soothing but if they are keeping you awake then that is not soothing. Go to your neighbor and explain that they are keeping you awake at night. Ask if they would mind bringing the chimes in at night. If that fails then file a complaint with the police.

I can totally agree with you on this. I enjoy windchimes somwtimes but enough is enough!! I really like the bamboo ones especially because the sound is not as high pitched. They should be understanding and take them down. i believe wind chimes are Ok as long as they arent bothering any of the neghbors. And in this case they are so theyshould take em down!! Really and stick to yourguns.

lol I don't think you're being annoying, I think you need sleep. ;o)
Maybe try asking the neighbours beside you if they have the same issue and decide a course of action from there. You could approach her as a duo, on your own, or not at all. At least you'll know if you're being oversensitive or if it's a real issue.
If you're polite about it she might secretly whine to her husband about it but she should at least understand. I hope. I would.

i LOVE windchimes
and i have some in my garden,
BUT
I take them down at night and hang them in my shed
your neighbour IS being inconsiderate, anything that keeps you awake at night IS problem, barring anything natural ie wind etc
they chimes are non essential and therefor they should take them down
if i were you i would approach them politely and say whilst during the day they are fine, they do keep you and your family awake and would appreciate the consideration if they were to remove or secure them at night

I make wind chimes, some selling for hundreds of dollars. I have them hanging every where and haven't gotten any complaints. If the neighbors are to chicken? to come to me and tell me that they are bothering their sleep then it is their own faults. Oh the other hand, if they did come to me and tell me they couldn't sleep because of them, I would make sure every last one of them was put out of commission before darkness fell. That is no problem and very simple to do, just take the clappers off at night. The last thing I want to do is disturb someone, but how am I to know ? I am not a mind reader. Go tell her! Communication is the key word here! And if someone demanded me to take them down, they would be looking straight at my middle finger!
