Can public fountains have rusty water?

I was in a public park today and I was drinking at one of the fountains along this bike trail and my boyfriend and I noticed an iron/blood type taste in the water. Could there be rust in the water? Could that cause any harm to us?

water cant rust but can be contaminated i recommend drinking TONS OF bottled water to wash out your system.
