cheap natural garden path, any ideas? about 100 ft plus?
Do you have any ideas on a inexpensive garden path? It will be coming from my house to the vegetable garden, the distance is about 100 ft. or more. This isn’t my property, so I need something thats not too permanent. I was thinking of maybe using dried leaves or something…. any ideas? It’s a long walk and I really just want to make it a little more pleasant back there. It’s kind of a country in the city type yard. Thanks

I like cocoa shells, they smell glorious (really chocolatey!) and have the added benefit of persuading neighbourhood cats to use someone elses garden for their toileting needs as they don’t like the smell. One cautionary note however, cocoa shells are poisonous to dogs, much in the same way as chocolate, so don’t use them if you have one! Failing that, you cant beat the old bark chippings, they look great and improve your soil condition as well as supressing weeds.
Use crush leaves or Mulch as its called, or pine needles as bought in bales at a lowes or walmart Then, go to http://www.DiscountHomeGardenDecor.com/ to see cool decorating ideas like frogs fountains and such
I like Molly’s answer — mulch. Sometimes the City has days in which they give the stuff away. Or you can try to locate somebody who is chipping/shredding into a truck and ask if they can dump their load on your property. They save dumpage fees and you get the goods!
Otherwise, if you wanted to spend money, I like DG — decomposed granite.
I use wood mulch & I get it for free from my municipality. It looks great, is easy to walk on, and is natural. Can’t get much better than that!
you can make your own stepping stones with concrete (buy it by the bag at home depot – just add water) pour it into molds that you can make your self in any shape you want and decorate them while still wet by pressing objects into the concrete such as shells, etc.
Crushed shells, such as clam shells, also make a nice walk way though they are a little harder to remove if you have to. If you can collect them yourself it is very inexpensive!
Dried leaves would make a mess of your yard as the wind blew them around – a better choice along the same lines would be wood chips (as a local sawmill, lumber yard, etc) just make sure the wood is not treated.
Hope this helps.
look for some flat rocks in a field somewhere they make great walks
Check around because often when they are doing construction they give away things like broken pieces of concrete-etc. I personally would get some of that border board and put in gravel. Small gravel you can get for cheap.
