I smell a very strong odor most likely some dead animal under the patio. There isn’t enough crawl space to check. Any suggestions of how to get rid of the odor? Anyone knows how long it will take on its own to go away?

If you can, toss in some lime under the porch.
This will kill the odor, and also make what ever it is down there, dessicate faster and lose its water, so that it will not stink…
I wish you well..

powdered lime spread it around the area where the dead animal was lying
If you can’t reach under the porch can you put a rake under there and go over the area trying to pull out anything that may be under there. If not you will probably just have to put up with it until it is done decaying and that will depend on the size of it, the heat and humidity of your area and what bugs you have around to help it along. Try citronella candles on the patio to cover up the hum.
If there is no way to crawl under there, you definitely have a problem. Can you see under there? Shine a flashlight? If you can locate it, perhaps you can use a long pole to move it out from under.
Otherwise, it depends on how big the offending animal is. If its a small mouse or rat, It won’t last long. My guess would be 3 or 4 days. Anything larger…its an unknown.
Keep the area dry. Don’t let it get wet, cause that will add to the messy decay.
