If you get "little pools of water in the grass" you need a Weeping Willow Tree for that spot or maybe just a Joe Pye Weed flower which is very tall & loves moist soil.
If you want something "eye-catching" you need Oriental Poppies. You may still have time to plant these from seed. Peonies and Iris are also eye-catching.
I hope you don’t get a lot of shade from your neighbor’s tree because plants that grow in the shade are not usually eye-catching. Astible is one that is and it looks good with Hosta and ferns.
Hope this helps.
Go with what grows well where you are. Fertilize the azaleas. Panzies go well till june or so. I like (red) impatiens for the shade.
What is the climate like?
Need more info….where area are you located?
That will help us help you decide what plants to get.
Azaleas are WONDERFUL!!! Give them to me!!!!!!
How about growing your own food instead of flowers? It can still look pretty, and there’s nothing quite like eating fresh vegetables and fruits grown by your own hands. It also means you can eat good wholesome fresh food, as opposed to the ‘chemically grown’ rubbish you get from the supermarkets.
