I like contemporary design but still like some green in my yard and some grass or ground cover. How do I lay this type of patio in my garden? Advice for the planting inbetween or the best type of pavers to use? Examples below! How do I prep the ground and lay the stones and do i need cement or anything?

I watched a show about 2 years ago and a lady made a cool planter box out of cement that takes a month or so to dry. Then she put a rock garden and other succulants and I would love to watch that again so I can make one. Thanks.

back garden – 1/2 of it is covered in play bark which is great. other 1/2 is covered in 3tonne of pink stone, under that is uneven & different grades of cement. ideally i would like to have bark, but this would be be a huge job. does anyone have any good ideas, where i could get rid of the stones & have a nice, child friendly garden. many thanks

I bought a 10×20 party canopy for my folks. It is going to cover their back patio. The patio is cured cement. Now, the canopy isn’t huge, and only needs protection against wind really.
Would using masonry screws, I think 12 (maybe 16) in total be enough to hold it down during wind? I know they sell those bolt and shield anchors…but that might be overkill.

We don’t have a big back yard at all and we are having some guests over for the 4th of July. Our 6×8 foot cement patio is very close ( like 2 feet away ) from some blue spruce pine trees which make might make it uncomfortable for someone. What is a good idea to make our patio look better long term? Add vinyl fencing, add a brick retainer wall…?

I’d like to lay some stone on top of my old concrete patio. I saw some reddish stone that had been grouted with what looks like cement and it was very nice looking. It was flat and different shapes but all of the shapes were about the same size. What type of stone could this be and was it grouted possibly with cement? Can it possibly be fieldstone? Looks like I need a education on the different types of stone.

to have the cement poured by some guys who do it for a living? The end purpose is that I will be putting down tile myself over the entire patio.

We are getting ready to put in a cement patio on the back of our house (14×40). So far, we have the gravel in, the three outer forms on and the wire screen in. I have done a few smaller projects with concrete before, and will be doing this one myself. It’s appox. 7 yards of cement, and I have one free day to do it. My question is, How do I level the fourth side against the foundation (It’s one of the 40′ sides)?

I have a patio which was dry-laid with irregular flagstones. I am not really happy with the look, or the maintenance required, as I get weeds between the stones.
Is it feasible to convert this to wet-laid without ripping up the whole thing? In other words, can I do it in sections, by picking up a few stones, putting down cement, replacing the stones in the same pattern as before, and then moving on to a new section?
Thanks

I am a resident of LA, and I broke up a patio made of concrete. Now I have chunks of concrete about a foot around. I was going to take the chunks to the dump, but it just seems to heavy to go to a landfill dump and It might got to expensive. Someone suggested I recycle the pieces of cement. I just don’t know where to take them. If anybody knows where I can atake the pieces of concrete, I’d appreciate it.
