I was thinking of getting my mom a chocolate fountain for Christmas because she and her friends get together alot and they love chocolate. I was reading reviews on one when I saw one person complaining that the chocolate would make tiny splatters when the guests would dip their fruit and it would get on the table cloth (& maybe their clothes). No one else complained of this though so I thought I would ask here and see if anyone had any experience with chocolate fountains. This one was a small Rival. Or do you think a fondue pot would be better? Thanks!

I want to get my mother in law a magazine subscription for christmas, I already got her "the taste of home" magazine, but now I was one more for her. she always goes to the library and checks these out. Anyway, she speaks english just I don’t think she can ready english very well, therefore I want to try to get her a magazine in spanish… any help?

I have always wondered why do we decorate an evergreen tree and what does that have to do with Christmas and Jesus, I have a feeling that has to do with a garden but I wanna be sure, can anyone tell me, 10 points for the answer that gives me a lot of details, please no links, you may use wikipedia to help you and you may copy and paste your answer,
I LOVE Christmas trees they give me a warm feeling and remind me of how blessed I am to be alive, I love helping decorate the tree every year after Thanksgiving, I love walking through malls seeing the beautifully decorated trees on display and I love the music they play while you shop, I also make my own Christmas ornaments, I color them with colored pencils, glitter glue and I hang them up in my room, I also wrap empty boxes with wrapping paper, you know like the box ice cream bars come in, instead of throwing it away, that is my way of recycleing it, by wrapping it in beautiful wrappin paper and putting each box outside my room door.

For me, there are a few that stand out. One was our puppy Wilbur, who we rescued from the dog pound on Christmas Eve as a companion for our other dog, Harvey.

The others are things people made me, like a new hat my neice knitted me, a tea box my brother made, ornaments painted by kids, the woodcarvings my Dad did, and a doll blanket my Mom sewed me.

My best all time bought gift was a wheelbarrow….My husband and I had been looking for a farmhouse for several years, and I said that when we had a barn and big garden, I wanted a wheelbarrrow. We still hadn’t found the house, but he remembered that, and it meant the world to me, because it was part of a dream of a different life. We live that life now.

I have never actually been to Alaska…but I want to go really bad…so I was kinda just walking around Garden Ridge this afternoon with my mom and we went through the christmas section (I know they already have christmas stuff out….I love it!). I then had this great idea to get a second christmas tree for our house this year. Our house is big enough and I have always said that I love christmas trees so much that when I grow up and have kids then I am going to have at least two trees…a family one and then one I can decorate with a new theme every year…well now I want to go ahead and start that tradition this year and I want the theme to be Alaskan…so any ideas. By the way we live in Texas so I thought it might be a unique theme that you wouldn’t see in Texas too much. Lol! My ideas include things like:

A partly flocked tree…maybe just the tips and stuff to make it look like snow.
Moose ornaments
Clear lights
Bears
Pinecones????
Any other ideas from people that have been to Alaska or know a lot about Alaska?

I am trying to find a chocolate fondue fountain to give to my mom for christmas, but I want, (If they exist) one that melts the chocolate itself instead of having to fill it will already melted chocolate? Can anyone tell me if there are any like this, and if so where?

My mom like gardening, pretty things and cooking. shes somewhat spiritual and is an herbalist.
My dad is a nature person too. Loves the out doors. Very practical person.

think a little more then "get your mom gardening gloves and a basket with seeds and tools" and "get your dad a hiking stick" or things along thoes lines. Last year I got my mom a copper heart wind chime from gaiam and my dad a cherry pit neck pillow that you can heat in the microwave.

Looking for lots of Irish themed Christmas ornaments. The ones i am finding on the net are around 5 dollars for one and thats on sale. I am needing around 50 ornaments dont have to be fancy would like simple non plastic non-expensive ornaments.

It looks like the kind of store you can buy a bag of ornaments ( like a modern day five and dime )from but they dont seem to sell them that way when you click on the ornament..they are sold individual and not cheap….acck! but thank you so much any ways

I am trying to figure out what these lights are called. I know they were used alot in the past to light up car lots and as christmas lights in the 50’s. I still see them today in outdoor restaurant patios and at firework stands. They are full size light bulbs on a string. I would like to purchase some for my outdoor patio but I cant find where they are sold.

Mine tree is a 8 ft Scandanavian Pine (a blue green with white tips) with 1200 lights, clear ornaments, icicles made of glass, silver jingle bells & tiny windchimes. I am putting it up this weekend.
What does yours look like & when will you put it up?
Not too early for me!!! We always have so much going on in December (I have 3 kids) that we have started putting our tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. It gets up all in the holiday mood.
And, I agree that Christmas is getting too commercial, you just have to decide for yourself how far you will fall into that. My kids go pick out toys for our church toy drive. They are 8, 4, 2 and are learning early. In fact, we don’t even label their gifts to avoid them "counting" their presents.
I top my tree with a burgundy & gold angel. I have been eyeing an angel that would be perfect for my tree. I see it every year at a craft fair. But, it is 5 and I just can’t bring myself to spend 5 on an angel- unless its skirt if made out of twenties
