I want to start a garden, but don’t know how. I live in central New Jersey. The soil I’m looking at is the area around my mailbox. It’s pretty small, less than 2 feet wide and 5 ft long. There are plenty of weeds and stuff thriving there, and lots of rocks. Not big rocks, the kind of rocks that people put as decor. I used a shovel to turn the earth, and it looks moist. There are lots of ants. I want to prepare the soil for planting, but I don’t know how. How do I get rid of the rocks? Should I get rid of the soil? What about the weeds? I know absolutely nothing on gardening. I’m just looking to make a pretty flower garden around my mailbox. Please help me. Links are appreciated. Thanks!

I found this frame on eBay. The auction states it’s a Victorian. Is there an appraiser/professional who can tell from the pics? It doesn’t have to be an actual Victorian, I’d just like to know if the design passes muster or is way off-track. Thanks in advance!

My daughter is turning 1 at the end of March… and well, its usually pretty chilly that time of year. But it will be the beginning of Spring, so I want to have her a party with a flower garden theme. But, if its cold, we will probably have to do it indoors, so I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas of things I could do in my living room/dining area to make it seem more like a garden for the little ones. She will be one but most of the other children will be 3-7.

The way my porch is set up makes it hard for me to plan a flower garden. Instead of being higher off the ground, it is almost level to my yard. The concrete is about 2 inches higher than the yard, and there is a sidewalk going to it. Anybody have any ideas for a flower garden that would make it look awesome??? Thanks!

An architect designs a rectangular flower garden such that the width is exactly two-thirds of the length. If 260 feet of antique picket are used to enclose the garden, find the dimensions of the garden.

For some reason this year, I’m getting a number of tall skinny red mushrooms growing in my flower garden. I have no idea what type of mushrooms these are. Everytime I remove one, it grows back in a day and they seem to be spreading. Any ideas of how I can get rid of them?

I bought a house that hasn’t had any landscaping done to it at all. Unless you count overgrown bushes, weeds, and the neighbors bushes encroaching in my yard. I want to get a flower garden started next spring.
I have a guy who will cut the bushes and weeds for me. He could do tilling if I need it or i can. But it’s the garden design I need help with. I’m not sure what flowers and plants would work best in my yard and I’m not that good at color design and design ideas. But I don’t necessarily need someone to do all the planting for me.
I just need to know What to plant Where and When. Like a "Paint-By-Numbers" design for my garden.
Is this the type of service a landscape designer would do? Or a landscape service? If not them, then who would be able to do something like this? And how much done something like that cost (ballpark)?
I’d appreciate information from other gardeners and especially people who work in the landscape business.
Thanks.
P.S. Please don’t suggest I buy a bunch of garden books. I have a bunch. I still can’t decide where to begin.

My first backyard (long rectangular shape with trees in corners) and I really want to design a great flower garden layout.
Anyone know of any websites with great garden layouts? I want neat ideas.
Thanks!

I’m realizing that I’m not very good at designing our flower garden and I thought maybe I could get some help online. I’m working with annual flowers right now. I did a search and found a couple of sites, but I’m looking for something simple – maybe with pictures and simple information. Any helpful sites would be appreciated. Thanks.
