Ok, this is going to sound stupid but I was playing around a broken table. (Basically if you move it a little the leg will fall off and the table will fall over)

So anyways I knocked the table over and it landed really hard on my arm (plus it is very heavy), and Im positive I broke my upper forearm area/ulna,radius. But the thing is my mom told me to not fool around with it, and if I tell her I will be in so much trouble. Ive knocked it over before, and bruised my shoulder, plus broken my collar bone. She grounded me for four weeks after I was healed, and it wasn’t pleasant.

So I plan on telling her this, and I want to know if it sounds plausible.

I was teasing my cat my opening and closing the patio door (heavy, sliding glass door with steal frame), but I kept my arm in the track/frame area to make sure that he wouldn’t be able to get through/get hurt when I close the door. So being stupid I didn’t move my arm fast enough and I slammed the patio door hard on my upper forearm.

Basically I felt something crack and it hurts a lot, so I need to get it checked out but if i tell her the truth she will be beyond mad at me.

So does the door excuse sound believable?
For your information I always play around, and tease my cat. (He loves going outside, and hates being denied)

Thanks for answering, and sorry for all the details. (Took forever to type :P )
Also I asked here because this is where all the best answers are. :)
I would tell her the truth, but if I do she won’t let me get a job later this summer, or hang out with friends.

Otherwise I would tell her. (This time last year I would have, but I can’t this year…..)

taking relaxation meds before getting shots?

My mother has an herbal relaxation remedy she wants to give me to help me relax before I get my shots. ( i have a severe phobia of blood and needles, and can’t even hear or look at them without getting tightness in my arm and getting queasy) I need shots for my job this summer so I have no choice.

is it okay to take something like that before shots?
The herb is called Valerian, which apparently is used for insomniacs.

When my kids were little and I went to someone’s house – I watched them like a hawk, making sure they weren’t into things, or breaking anything. We’re now approaching empty nest stage, and have a nice house with nice furnishings. We find when friends or family bring their little ones over – they’re literally into everything – and the parents just sit there, we find we’re chasing them around making sure they don’t hurt themselves or get into something dangerous. At Christmas I made a punch, had a crystal punch bowl out (up high) and one parent wanted to let her 2 year old drink out of the crystal cups – instead of a plastic cup or sippy cup – because he liked the crystal cup. I said no kids need to drink out of unbreakable cups – and we gave him something else.

Anyway – we feel bad being the bad guys – but are amazed at how lax parents are at being parents to their little ones. It makes our visits very stressful – especially the one who just drops in without a call. We kind of feel we raised our kids, now for over 20 years – and we kind of feel it’s their job to raise theirs – whether it’s a grandchild or a friends child.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do you handle – no one wants to be the "mean" grandparent, or the "mean" old lady next door, but at the same time you cringe has they’re tearing apart silk flower arrangements, or denting the new wood floor, or going under your sink, where there are chemicals, or eating the dog food, pouring out the dog water bowl.
We live in the south (now) and no longer have a basement. We do have a FROG (finished room over the garage) and have tried to childproof it, but it is separate from the house, and we seldom go up there. We have lots of toys – I ran a daycare, and bring them down, but that doesn’t always work.

The drop in situation, I can’t always stop and go outside, last time I was in the middle of making dinner, so while I was in the kitchen cutting up fruit, and potatoes – I was also chasing her 1 yo around our house, while she sat in our living room.

We just sold our house, and the kids definitely took a toll on that house, along with the daycare kids. We took a huge loss on that house – because of the economy. So we’ve bought a new house and new furnishings, and would like to keep it nice.
FYI – it’s not always keeping things "nice" the bow the child pulled out of the silk arrangement was on a spike – so he could have easily poked his eye with this – my husband said "hey what does he have" and he had the ribbon out of an arrangement that was on a spike. I hate to admit it but he found a small Zyrtec on the floor (I was horrified) but I give them to my dog for allergies, either one dropped on the floor and I didn’t know it or he spit it out and again I didn’t know it. Again my husband asked me what he had – and it was a pill – these were both the drop in situation, so I wasn’t expecting company, but both a safety issue. Like a child drinking from a crystal goblet, they break it – glass all over.

Roses for wedding centerpieces?

My friend is giving me the job of setting up her centerpieces next weekend. I have to float a single rose in a crystal bowl full of water. My question is, how do you make sure that the flower will open properly and how much stem do I leave on? I had heard that you use warm water, but I cant find a full answer anywhere on the internet.
The rose will be a fall color and there will be votives and flower petals around the bowl. This is not my idea, I just have to make it happen.

Should my husband and I move to Phoenix or San Diego?

I love the ocean, he loves the heat, I work in gardening, and designing, he is in construction, any info on job availability, wages, housing, crime, would help us make our decision! Also we both love having things to do, would like a fun, active, cultural city with lots of fun stuff!

My husband and I just moved into a house…problem is…only a 3X3 square for a linding out of the backdoor.

My brother has worked in contruction (concrete) for over 20 years, so he really does know what he is doing.

He (my brother) told me that he would do all the work to put in a nice patio for me if I would work something out with my landlord for him to pay for the materials…my brother said that he would big this job at about 50 but he would do it for me for only the cost of materials which is going to be about 0 (only the cost of the concrete since he can get other supplies left over from other jobs he does).

How can I talk him into this? I was thinking maybe ask him to take 0 of the rent for 5 months…I don’t know…

We REALLY need a patio or SOMETHING and this would only increase the value of the house….

Thanks so much for all of your input!
Sorry about all of the typos….that’s what I get for not reading it before posting…

My brother said he woud BID….well I am sure you knew what I meant…sorry about that.
I got a great deal on the rent…and to be honest…that is the ONLY downside about the place…great location…great schools…I love it.

Just no patio :(

Ideas for unwanted garden?

We rent our house, and in the backyard, there is a large corner that has been used for a garden in the past. This summer, we do not want to plant anything- I have a toddler, am 6 months pregnant, and my husband has a herniated disc in his back- the mowing & watering will be enough yard work for me this year. But the garden has dandelions and other weeds in it, and needs some kind of care. What should I do with it? Someone suggested just mowing it, to keep it from going to seed, another suggested spraying weed/grass killer, then tilling (we don’t have a tiller to till it with, but could I just rake it after it’s all dead?)… what can we do to make the yard look nice, including this garden? TIA
Seriously? Hefty bags? I want the yard to look nice… we don’t live in no trailer park…
It IS our job to take care of the lawn, I didn’t realize that wasn’t made clear when I said that I would be mowing & watering…

We can’t just turn a garden into more lawn (permanantly) when we RENT the house… doesn’t anyone read through the questions?
Wow, kansas- that’s harsh- why would my landlord not like me as a renter, when I am trying to take care of the garden without just letting it go wild with weeds, as other renters might? The landlord wants it as a garden- I don’t know why, as I didn’t question his authority as landlord- I am just following his order that we care for the lawn, inlcluding the garden. I agree that most renters do not want to maintain a garden, but it’s not my house or my decision. When I agreed to rent the place, we agreed to care for it. It’s a large triangular shaped garden, closed off by a sidewalk- he likes that part of the yard to be delegated as garden, for the renters that would prefer to have one.

How can I melt down copper pipe?

A friend gave me some extra copper pipe that he had from a job and I decided to melt it down and make a decorative wind chime for my grandmother

My question is.. how can I get a heat source to melt down copper? The material has a melting point of almost 1100 degrees Celsius. Is there something I can buy that will help me with this? I just want to get the pipe hot enough to make it ply able so I can etch decorations for the wind chime.

I want to cut a hole in the wall and add a patio door. How much would a contractor charge for this? is this a 1Kish or 10Kish job?

How much should I charge for my garden designs?

I am working in conjunction with a local building firm who recently got a job designing a sensory garden for a primary school. The garden is being paid for by a £6000 government grant the school has recently been awarded, as it is designed for young children including those with disabilities. They asked me to come up with the designs for the garden, and so far I have surveyed the site, come up with two original initial ideas and produced plant and materials lists for them. I will also work with them towards a final design, and will take part in the building process as much as I can. The only problem is, they have asked me for a quote, and I don’t know what to charge. I don’t have my own business, but I have always worked on designs in the past. The most recent one was a full design overhaul for a pub garden, and I have never been paid for it. I want something for my efforts, but I’m not sure what the going rate is. Any ideas?

Does it make any difference in price whether the stamping is horizontal or vertical? Is the going rate around .00 a square foot? I have a quote from a great company that quarantees their work…but it is coming in at more than .00 a square foot. My driveway is only about 800 square feet and my patio area is around 250 square feet. Is this the problem? Are they charging more because it’s a small job? Or, does it make any difference in price that I’m asking for two different patterns? I need to have an answer tomorrow for my contractor. My contractor won’t let me contact the sub on this. . . That’s why I’m asking you for help!

Easy Tilling Ideas for Medium Sized Garden?

I have moved, and rather than rent a tiller (trying to save in any way possible) I have been taking a shovel and turning the ground. This is a quite tedious and difficult job, and was wondering if anyone had any easier ideas? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, and Happy Gardening!

I have several ‘mugs’ most I use, others I simply offer to guests when entertaining… none of them have stains but was unfortunate enough the other day to drink coffee out of someone else’s mug and there were dark STAINS, I didn’t realise it was theirs… anyway I survived and want to know if anyone knows of a natural solution to the problem with the stains, a herbal remedy or salt crystals or should I go out and buy some designer mugs and use the old one as a vase or garden ornament what would YOU do?
soak them in vinegar? will strong white vinegar do the job?
