I got my husband a betta fish for Christmas, we gave it to him early. I set up everything a a couple of days before we got the fish. When I first rinsed everything and filled the bowl (1.5 gallons), it was crystal clear. The next day, it was full of little bubbles. I read online to wash my hands and just reach in and brush off the bubbles, so I did that. Remember, no fish in it yet. Then we added the water conditioner. The next day, before we went to get the fish, the water looked cloudy! I called the pet store, and they advised to just set up the filter for a while. The tank has a filter, but it is not set up now because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too much current for a betta. So, I set up the filter, and that helped a little. So we got our betta (he is beautiful!) and he took to the tank right away with no problems last night. He ate a bloodworm, but there isn’t any excess food in the tank. This morning, the water is very cloudy again!!!! Should we change his water already, even though he has only been in the tank for less than 24 hours??? Help, we love our new boy fishie! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18months ago my friends bought me 2 goldfish for no reason. they gave me all the stuff, fish bowl, gravel, plastic plant, dechlorinator, crystal things, food etc. I kept my fishies for 18months, they were the best pets ever and i was totally ignorant to the fact that keeping them in a bowl was wrong coz they were always so happy
when my fish started showing signs of ammonia poisoning i did lots of research and found out everything,i straight away went and bought a proper tank (6gallon, its all i could afford, which is fine for the 2 fishies that i had) but read that i had to let it cycle! my fishies died a few days later
on my birthday, it was so sad. i planned to get 2new fish to put into my tank but i wanted to give the tank 3weeks to cycle, its been 2 so far, but today my stupid friend turned up with 5 goldfish! said she thought i was lonely! i had to put them all into the tank and now im afraid they will die!i still have the fishbowl, should i put two in there? what do i do??
I would put them in a fishbowl only until i found someone to give them to or bought another tank but would it be better to put the two little ones (not even an inch long) into the fishbowl so that i dont overcrowd and overload the tanks filtration system? I’m so stressed about it, i cant handle having more fish die
my local petshop says they cant take them and i dont know anyone else with a tank, except the friend who bought the 5 fish and clearly she doesnt know anything about them (shes killed lots of goldfish!)
please help, what would be best?

My boyfriend is thinking of getting me a goldfish, so I thought until I get round to buying a tank or a proper fish bowl, would it be ok to just put it in a normal (big) bowl?
Thanks
Does it have to have a filter system? Can I not just clean it often?

I’ve had my betta for about a month and he, Uncle Karl, has been a pretty happy fish. I had him in a bowl for awhile and then I put him in a tank with two other fish and they all did fine. I took Karl out because the other fish were afraid of him and put him back in his bowl. I have changed his water every two days but everyday it gets cloudy. There is nothing in the bowl but him. I only feed him once a day and he eats everything. He doesnt look or act sick either. His bowl used to be crystal clear. What could be wrong?

I’ve had a biOrb aquarium for the last 2 years and as some of you may know there not the greatest when it comes to keeping fish. I’ve decided to get rid of the present fish, give them to a relative or back to the fish store. drain the tank and dump all the decor.
I’m planning to use it as an indoor garden(mini rainforest) plant mini palm trees and tropical plants that are suitable etc…
I’m also planning on making interesting by adding a staircase for an upstairs, a little pond (if possible), mini houses/people surrounded by exotic plants and rocks etc..
Any ideas on how I can start this off?
I’m planning on doing some research first so if there’s anything that’s vital to know before starting up I’d love to know.
Do I need under soil filter?
Does the soil need to be a certain pH?
What plants would be suitable?
How can I make or where can I buy mini houses/people/stairs. How can I make an upstairs, or platforms?
Thank You

One of my fish, a pink kissing gurami, has been getting bit on by other fish. Her name is Cecilia. She has sugar-like crystals on her fins and body. My Mom says this is probably "ick", a disease that fishes get easy. I know I can get medicine for the water, we will do that tommorrow. The fish that we have in our tank are a green spotted puffer, catfish, a little orange fish (not gold fish), and a female guppy. I know, I know. Horrible combination. I’ve tried to convince my Mom to seperate them, but she won’t. We did have a male beta but he got his fin ripped by another fish. We put him in a bowl alone, but soon he died.
What should I do? Does Cecilia have Ick? Should I just get the medicine and forget about it?

I purchased a baby fish 5 days ago and I’m not quite sure exactly what the species is. It looks like a goldfish, but I don’t know. I bought it in a small crystal bowl… should I keep it in there or change it into a tank?
