I am looking for creative ideas for the construction of my wind chimes. I have been using wood and want to try something new.

Well, the obvious answer is glass – fuse an piece of stamen or nichrome wire with several S curves so you can hang it above and attach chime pieces below.
Use copper wire and shape into spiral wire as in this incomplete example with shells http://www.mikegigi.com/firthm/mobiles.htm#MYMOBL scroll down.
Use better wood – in the 90′s I made fused glass hangers and cut out thin shapes of cherry wood which I finished with urethane varnish and created hanging points with small loop pins from lamp work (hanging crystals on chandeliers) that were drilled in the edge. I just realized that I have no handy images of them – still have some pieces in boxes out back.
