What do you think of Malaysia Public University way of conducting orientation?
i think it’s stupid why do the MPP (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar) make all the new undergraduate doing all stupid fool thing. They force you to sing Fresihe2 suka korek hidung ummm umm sedap rasanya.
The orientation is really waste of time. During 1970-1980 it’s much worst the seniors will make all the new undergraduate life miserable by doing all sort of thing such as forcing you to put your face in the toilet bowl and they will flush the toilet water on your face that is call "Royal Bath", beside that they will splash the soak clothes water that has been soak for a few days and you are require to swim on the floor and while the women are require to masturbate in front of the seniors(women) this is done in one of public university in Malaysia that is exclusive for the Bumiputra and has branches throughout Malaysia . This kind of thing doesn’t occured in overseas universities.

Actually there is a purpose to this madness.
This bullying, initiation rites or orientation is common in Universities, Armed forces, gangs etc throughout the world. The reason is to bond new members, who were totally strangers before, together. Sometimes they get totally out of hand and people get injured.
not good at all!
Well… we come out from a 3rd world country but our local "U" still have 3 rd class mentality
nope2… all three answer before.. is from a stupid and moron.. I just enter local university.. no more bullies and gang… all three i believe are loser…
yucks…..
i think its immoral. i dont think people would dare doing that to me. senior or not, aint nobody can step on my head. i’ll bash them up real good thats for sure.
I have no experience of such thing. In my school, orientation week was done in a healthy way e.g telematches, ice-breaking tea break and teacher vs student ball games.
I was shocked when u mentioned mustarbate, such thing rally happened? then something is not ok here…
I’ve had such experience before when I first got into U.It was racial specific,as I’m a Chinese in a Malay majority environment. Our Chinese senior found us and made us memorize all their names, birthdates and hometowns. Then, there were ‘sessions’ in their house where they made us do really embarassing thing. They would yell at us and insult us.There was even oath reading. But at the end of the day,it was all to give us a chance to know them and for them to know us.Today we are good friends.I myself organised such event later as a senior. There were strict rules to adhere. No physical contact,no sexual acts,no sensitive issues and stuff. So it wasn’t that bad and at the end of the day, everyone were close friends.
Well, in overseas universities, things like these DO happen and it is still a common practice. Some governments are already getting involved to curb violence (by some ‘freshies’, usually).
I think the flushing in the toilet bowl and masturbating thing is kind of too much and out of hand, but the others like ‘swimming’ on the floor is still ‘o-k’.
Back in Thailand, we (still) make ‘kids’ sing crappy songs and they’ve got a campfire-like initiation/orientation and the most common ‘game’ that we have is the Chicken Dance competition.
I think most Malaysians are missing the point of having an orientation here. I know that some people are taking this as ‘ragging’ and it shouldn’t be that way. The orientation camp is meant to foster closer ties and FUN FUN FUN. In fact, it was meant to work as a mentor-mentee program/relationship, where juniors/newcomers are supposed to receive guidance and forge closer bonds and build a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work that way in Malaysia.
There are numerous MOVIES made about this dreaded ‘camp’ in Thailand and each and every student have their own story to tell, from the fun and exhilarating experiences to stories of spooks and murder (it happened).
For the Thais, this camp is called ‘Rub Nong’, which means ‘receiving brothers/sisters’ (younger), to reflect on what/how it should be and every ‘nong take’ (refers to ‘intakes’) have a ‘roon pee’ (elder generation) to be their mentors, which acts as a ‘foster’ sibling in campus.
