I'd recommend going to a piercer and having them change it for you. They can autoclave the retainer (i'm assuming standard metal staple shaped septum retainer) and put it in quickly and smoothly. It's always hard to maneuver the first jewlery change on a new piercing, so you'd be better off letting a pro do it. Just because you don't want to set back your healing time if you miss and have to wiggle it around and damage the tissue inside that's started to heal and all, make sense? My piercer changed my lip stud after about 2 weeks. I explained that I was biting it too much because it was long and I don't swell, and having quit my job, I could have a ring, which I thoguht would be safer for my teeth than the long initial stud. He was fine with that. Had I done it myself, it probably would've taken more than one try and I would have had an angry piercing afterwards. Its not fully healed, taking it out wil increase the risk of infection and putting in a plastic retainer when it's not fully healed isnt a good idea either.
